Lawrence Woodworks is a furniture design and fabrication studio in Upstate NY.
We are a family-owned furniture design and fabrication business in Upstate NY. Lawrence Woodworks was founded in 2015 by furniture maker, Peter Lawrence. Growing up in rural New York, Peter had a lot of time to be in nature and experience the world around him. Even as a boy, he was fascinated with building furniture from real wood. In high school, Peter read a magazine article featuring a Willow Adirondack Chair. The next day he went out to the woods, cut down saplings, and hammered together a stick chair for his parents.
Ever since that chair, Peter has enjoyed working with wood. He dreamed about becoming a woodworker and worked hard towards that goal as he grew up. In 2015, Peter officially started Lawrence Woodworks and continues to develop his skills and eye for design.
I get the most joy from the process of building furniture. My clients get the joy of the end piece, but I get all of it. The first smell of the timber, to the satisfaction of a tight joint, the sight of the first coat of finish being applied. It really is the only thing I get to keep from it. I try to impart this joy to my customers. Working with me on a commission I try to involve my customers as much as I can with the process of building.
